RAUw will take place in November and December 2011 and is designed to compare different cultural stands of young people regarding the city. We will focus on their place of living and what they would like to change in order to make personal life, and the life of their neighbors, more interesting and pleasant. RAUw brings 16 young people from Utrecht and Amsterdam with different interests and backgrounds to research and discover, act, experience, learn, debate and undertake actions. During the meetings, which will take place once a week, with professionals from different sectors (architects, film directors, politicians, journalists, essayist, urban planners, cultural managers etc.) you will use the attributes of your surroundings, explore the surroundings of the other project-partners as stimulus for further actions and development.
You will meet people with a totally different live, but from your own age, living in your hometown. You will get to see different parts of the city and hear from the other participant what it is actually like to live there. You will look at the city with fresh eyes and you will compare the two largest cities and its policies. You will get the chance to address the problems in your hometown, propose solutions, your opinion will matter and you will be enabled to take action. Eventually you will be able to tackle the problem on your own or in group.
The results of RAUw will be published in a book with the names of all participants. This book will be presented at two festivals in Utrecht and Amsterdam in 2012. The book will be distributed to the municipalities and policymakers as well as to all institutions in the Netherlands that are working with community projects as well as to all institutions in the Netherlands that are working with community projects.
