Zoodio is a collaboration between Laurens van der Wee and Roel van Doorn, emerging from a shared interest in technology that lost its original function in today’s society. In modern times human kind has become increasingly dependent on technology. In several thousands of years a development took place from physical objects to digital media and beyond. Due to the rapid that this development has become, one could say that human kind has made major concessions in terms of the understanding of the inner workings of everyday objects and devices. Also, because of this development, the potential of this technology is in many ways not used to its full extent, also, or even, artistically. Technology as a tool in an artistic project is in many cases purely functional. Zoodio is about the technology and its artifacts, about translocating it to new contexts and thus extending its function and meaning. In that sense the artists are not only interested in the concept as such, but also in the degradation of tape, the crucial differences with the potential of digital reproduction and the artifacts of analog circuitry. Zoodio is transparent: wires, mechanics, circuitry and tape form an essential part of its physical representation.
At this stage Zoey is looking for subsidies for the Zoodio project that is planned to start in the summer this year.
